A clearly rhythmic, but not necessarily creatively musical behaviour. The behaviour exhibits common musical features without being defined as Music.

Crickets is an interactive playground of self-organised synchronised oscillators

By moving the little ocillating Crickets around, and playing with the various parameters, you can produce a type of protomusical rhythmicity.

Crickets is intended to be a component of a larger system. One example of its application is in music generation, but it could easily be applied to other fields, such as neuroscience, robotics, lighting… the list goes on!

Crickets is developed with OpenFrameworks and uses Open Sound Control to broadcast its current state for your application patches to hook into.
